Welcome to the final installment of the REALTOR® Review for 2017. While this year has been full of difficult moments for Texans and Texas REALTORS® everywhere, we have also had the opportunity to shine in the way we pull together and take care of one another. Even now, many are asking what they can do to help. The request I’ve had most often is the need for boots on the ground to help with the clean-up and the rebuilding that will carry people into the cooler months to come.
Quick question, are you a voter? Plenty of people turn out for the big elections that help govern our country, but only about 1% of Texans have voted early so far in the constitutional amendment election currently taking place in our state.
That is an abysmally low number of people. Consider that regardless of voter turnout, these elections MUST happen. Consider that even if only 1% of registered voters turn out, 100% of your tax dollars pay to hold these elections.
Here’s a question for you: Many people can tell you the name of their state and national elected officials, but do you know the names of the people who sit on the city council or your school board? Local elections can have the greatest direct impact on your community, and it’s critical as REALTORS® and as community members to be engaged.
In May and November elections, you have the opportunity to control how your taxes are used in your own city, who determines what is best for your children’s or grandchildren’s schools, what growth strategies are best and when, and many other details that directly affect your life. Don’t be a spectator, be part of the action! Get involved – Go VOTE.

Another great place to start being involved is by attending your local board meetings. Come for the fun! How you can help Harvey victims
The Texas REALTORS® Relief Fund has distributed more than $3.5 million worth of assistance to those affected by Hurricane Harvey—many of whom are REALTORS® themselves—thanks to combined support from NAR’s REALTORS® Relief Foundation, state and local associations, individual donations, and funds from the Texas Association of REALTORS®.
But the need is still great. The fund is no longer accepting new applications for assistance, but we’re still processing applications we’ve already received based on additional contributions.

The more donations we receive, the more funds we can disperse.

Appraisal Rules Eased for Disasters
Appraisals won’t be needed for transactions involving federally related mortgages (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, etc.) in the parts of Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands that have been declared disaster areas. The easing lasts 36 months, federal regulators say. Read the full article at this link.
MBM boards are leading the way with TREPAC! Your participation shows that you understand the value in the Texas Association of REALTORS® Political Action Committee. Here are the boards that will be awarded during the Winter Meeting in February 2018:
Boards that reached over 100% of their annual quota include Dumas BOR, Eagle Pass BOR, Jasper Area BOR, Montague County BOR, and the Paris BOR. Kingsville Area AOR placed at over 200%, and Brazoria County BOR and Del Rio brought in over 300% of their annual quota! Great job folks!
There is more: Statewide, 8 Texas REALTOR® boards were awarded for surpassing 400% of their annual quota. Two of the boards were MBM – Excellent work, Bandera County BOR and Coastal Bend AOR!
Category 7 includes all Texas boards that fall within our size range. In this category, two MBM boards take home prizes. Bandera County Board of REALTORS won the second place award for quota at 441% and the Coastal Bend Association of REALTORS® won second place in participation at 88%, then swept the first place with Quota (521%) and total dollars raised ($7840).
